Dual board-certified plastic surgeon Kenneth A. Godwin, D.O., excels in helping individuals achieve on the outside the beauty they have within.

Dr. Godwin, who is an associate member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and a member of the American Osteopathic Association, performs a great many minimally invasive body-sculpting procedures, including SmartLipo. This form of liposuction, the doctor explains, is unique in that it offers skin tightening as an integral part of the procedure. “This can be done under local anesthesia, in the office,” says Dr. Godwin, a graduate with honors of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. “There is less bruising and less ‘downtime.’”

Cellulaze is another such means of treating stubborn areas. This minimally invasive procedure is performed with the assistance of lasers with the goal of attacking the actual structure under the skin that supports and creates cellulite.

Among the newest techniques available in the industry is another noninvasive means of body contouring known as SculpSure. Utilizing this system, Dr. Godwin is able to offer a unique treatment found in just a few other offices throughout the region.

“This noninvasive fat-eliminating laser is new technology which has been on the market for less than a year,” Dr. Godwin explains. “I am happy to be one of the first in the area to offer it to my patients.”

SculpSure’s advanced technology utilizes a laser which penetrates the skin to destroy underlying fat. In addition to offering the benefits common to any noninvasive procedure, such as minimal discomfort and little to no downtime, SculpSure can be used on many areas of the body including the abdomen and flanks for measurable results. Perhaps most remarkably, the in-office procedure takes only 25 minutes per treatment.

Patients can see up to a 24 percent fat reduction in the treated area. As the body requires six to 12 weeks to fully metabolize the destroyed fat, the most noticeable results come at the end of that period; but, Dr. Godwin notes, results begin surfacing in as little as six weeks.

“The results are very dramatic,” says Dr. Godwin, who completed a prestigious fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The procedure is extremely popular, too. In the two to three months since Dr. Godwin started offering this to patients, he has performed nearly 50 procedures utilizing the technology.

“The earliest treated patients are seeing great results,” Dr. Godwin says. “They actually have stated that they had no soreness or pain after the procedure, and they are already seeing a significant improvement in the reduction of fat.”

Dr. Godwin is also adept at a host of procedures for rejuvenating the head and neck. The Pellevé RF Wrinkle Reduction System is one minimally invasive means of reducing wrinkles on the face and around the eyes. The system utilizes specialized radio frequency technology to achieve outstanding results.

For patients seeking a rejuvenated look for their neck area, there is PrecisionTx, a minimally invasive laser face and neck lift treatment for the lower face and neck. This procedure can address issues such as jowls, double chins and loose skin in the neck area.

A full range of “injectables”—Botox, fillers, etc.—comprise another set of tools at Dr. Godwin’s disposal. Botox is perhaps one of the most popular injectable treatments available today. Many know this treatment is used to smooth lines in the face, but most do not know that this prescription injectable medication can have aesthetic benefits lasting up to six months. A similar treatment, Dysport, is also available to Dr. Godwin’s patients; like Botox, Dysport utilizes the botulinum toxin to relax muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. Such treatments can ease the stubborn “11” lines, called Glabellar lines, that appear on the forehead as a result of age, as well as crow’s feet.

Another popular set of injectables is Restylane and Juvéderm. These treatments can be used to increase volume in the face in areas such as the lips and cheeks. Dr. Godwin utilizes Juvéderm XC Ultra, which has effects that last longer than traditional Juvéderm.

“I offer my patients a complete line of medical-grade skin care to treat all types of skin concerns,” Dr. Godwin notes. This full line of products can treat everything from acne to hyperpigmentation to age spots. Certain products can even reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles in the face. “Using this skin care can help achieve healthy, younger-looking skin,” Dr. Godwin says.

For the utmost in dramatic transformations, Dr. Godwin also performs a bevy of surgical procedures at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne and Aria Health Bucks in Fairless Hills. Dr. Godwin is highly skilled in procedures including: rhinoplasty (procedures pertaining to sculpting the nose); abdominoplasty (tummy tucks); facelifts; a range of liposuction applications and breast augmentation, breast lifts (mastopexy procedures) and breast reductions; buttock augmentation; brachioplasty (to treat sagging to the back of the arms); and blepharoplasty (upper or lower eyelid rejuvenation). In other words, “the full spectrum of cosmetic and reconstructive needs” as Dr. Godwin says. This includes the popular “mommy makeover,” a combination of procedures such as a tummy tuck and a breast lift or augmentation.

Dr. Godwin stays current on methodology as well as technology. He is able to offer breast augmentation in an extremely safe manner with minimal scarring.

No technology enters Dr. Godwin’s office without having passed more than a fair share of due diligence. Dr. Godwin notes that he performs “meticulous research” by reviewing medical studies and conducting extensive discussions with colleagues before investing in any new technology.

While the tools at Dr. Godwin’s disposal are varied, they share certain commonalities. Namely, as Dr. Godwin says, he searches for technologies that are “going to cause dramatic results with minimal downtime.”

Dr. Godwin knows that at the heart of all he does is the patient. “[These procedures] are a confidence booster, to help patients feel comfortable in their skin again,” Dr. Godwin says. “And in today’s society, being comfortable in your own skin is something that is difficult to do. It really helps boost their confidence and helps patients see their true inner beauty.”
