Mind Your Skin LLC offers women and men an array of effective noninvasive options for “turning back the clock”
by Bill Donahue

Although the average American is living longer, healthier and more actively than ever before, one’s appearance doesn’t always keep up with one’s spirit. In other words, the effects of aging can belie a person’s youthfulness, especially when it comes to lax, wrinkled skin and stubborn pockets of unwanted fat.

Norbertus C. Robben, M.D., says it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, patients can “turn back the clock” without having to resort to plastic surgery.

“Most of us get to a point where we look a little tired, or maybe we just don’t look as refreshed as we would like,” says Dr. Robben of Mind Your Skin LLC, a medical practice with offices in Havertown and Philadelphia, where patients benefit from a full menu of noninvasive laser and aesthetic services, as well as professional skin care. “We offer nonsurgical anti-aging treatments that soften and improve the effects of aging. We can help someone rediscover their youthful appearance, but it’s important to note that realistic expectations are paramount.”

Dr. Robben offers a broad selection of effective nonsurgical options to help women and men look “better, with a natural and more youthful appearance, without others knowing that you have undergone an aesthetic procedure,” he says. A rejuvenation treatment and maintenance program is designed for each patient utilizing multiple modalities and skin-care products to combat the signs and progression of aging. Dr. Robben is diligent in sorting through the newest technologies and products to ensure optimal patient results. Some of the newest treatment options offered by his practice include UltraShape, VelaShape and Kybella.

* UltraShape Power: This FDA-cleared, noninvasive technology from Syneron Candela is used to contour targeted areas of a patient’s body—namely, the abdomen, thighs and flanks. Mind Your Skin is among the very first to acquire the “Power” version. UltraShape employs pulsed ultrasound to selectively destroy pockets of fat, without harming surrounding tissue, muscles or nerves. After the three-treatment protocol, patients experience a 32 percent reduction of fat in treated areas, according to Dr. Robben. UltraShape breaks down the walls of fat cells, thereby releasing the fat in the form of triglycerides, which are then eliminated from the body naturally. UltraShape is perfect for men and woman with a healthy lifestyle that just can’t lose stubborn pockets of fat. The treatment requires no incisions, anesthetics or recovery time.

* VelaShape III: Often used in tandem with UltraShape, FDA-cleared VelaShape is used to smoothen and tighten skin of the neck, arms and thighs, as well as the buttocks, flanks and abdomen. It also treats cellulite. An estimated 85 percent of women have cellulite regardless of their size or shape, according to Dr. Robben. VelaShape, also from Syneron Candela, causes deep heating of the fat cells, their surrounding connective tissue and the underlying dermal collagen fibers to stimulate the growth of new collagen and elastin. The result improves the skin’s laxity, structure and texture to reduce the appearance of cellulite with smoother skin. A treatment protocol of three sessions spaced two weeks apart and periodic maintenance for body shaping and cellulite are recommended.

* Kybella: An FDA-approved injectable manufactured by Allergan, Kybella is a synthetic deoxycholic acid that aids in the breakdown and absorption of the dietary fat that contributes to “submental fullness,” otherwise known as a double chin. Like all the services offered by Dr. Robben, Kybella is a nonsurgical treatment, though patients are to expect temporary swelling, and some bruising and discomfort. Patients tend to see optimal results within four to six weeks of treatment. The fat cells are permanently destroyed with Kybella. The end result is years off of their appearance with a more youthful profile. Kybella is particularly popular with male patients, according to Dr. Robben.

Other in-demand services offered by Dr. Robben and his staff of skilled aestheticians include Active FX fractional CO2 laser for face, neck and chest, as well as the eyelids and under-eyes. The FX laser stimulates collagen and tightens skin, improving texture, and refreshing “tired eyes.” The TitanXL and Laser Genesis stimulate collagen and are popular for patients who are busy and on the run. The full gamut of cosmetic injectables—Botox, Juvéderm, Voluma, as well as Dysport, Restylane, Silk and Lyft, plus Xeomin, Radiesse and Belotero—are offered for enhancing lips, softening nasolabial folds, frown lines, crow’s feet and other noticeable signs of aging. The licensed aestheticians can brighten tired and dull skin with microdermabrasion, peels, microneedling and dermaplaning. Treatments for laser hair removal and spider veins are popular as well.

“What we are offering are anti-aging treatments, where you can essentially slow time’s aging hands,” Dr. Robben says. “We can help you improve or at least put the foot on the brake, so to speak, so at least you’re heading down the curve at a much slower rate. Getting older is unavoidable, but with the growing field of aesthetics and the improvements in technology, men and women can improve their appearance safely with little to no downtime.

“We’ve always tried to be different than other practices by providing the best experience from the moment you come through the door,” he continues. “Our staff is personable, and they have no quota to sell a certain product or procedure. Our goal is simple: to make you feel relaxed, informed and to design a noninvasive rejuvenation program with you that best suits your needs and budget.”
