At the Forefront
Ear, Nose and Throat Associates of Chester County offers patients cutting-edge treatment for a full spectrum of issues related to general ENT, sleep, allergy and audiology

Issues and disorders of the ear, nose and throat can range in severity from irritating sinus problems to life-threatening cancers of the head and neck. One local practice, Ear, Nose and Throat Associates of Chester County (ENTACC), can handle all these issues and much more.

ENTACC treats patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatric patients, with a host of issues such as allergies, ear infections, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hearing loss, tumors of the head and neck area, sinus disorders and sleep disorders. ENTACC also has a full audiology department to provide advanced testing and treatment for hearing loss-including hearing aid sales, balance disorders and tinnitus.

Such a host of issues cannot be treated without a highly qualified team of care specialists. ENTACC’s four physicians—Alexander C. Keszeli, D.O.; Adam J. Mariotti, M.D.; Michael A. Picariello, M.D.; and Joseph L. Smith II, M.D.—are among the top ENT specialists in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

All of ENTACC’s doctors are trained in the most up-to-date technologies, techniques and tools. This allows the ENTACC team to provide treatment that is often less invasive and offers faster healing time, all leading to greater patient comfort.

One such treatment is the cutting-edge, in-office balloon sinuplasty procedure. “Utilizing a technology similar to that used in heart stent procedures,” explains Dr. Mariotti, “we have been able to offer in-office sinus dilation.”

Dr. Mariotti, who received his education at the University of Pennsylvania and Jefferson Medical College, explains that this procedure is offered in place of the more traditional sinus surgery, where patients are put under general anesthesia in an outpatient hospital setting. In addition to performing balloon sinuplasty procedures, Dr. Mariotti treats allergies, thyroid and parathyroid disease, hearing loss and sinus disease.

The practice also has made great strides in the field of sleep medicine. Dr. Smith, who received his education at Cornell University and Jefferson Medical College and is board certified in sleep medicine, is one of the ENTACC physicians leading the way in treating sleep disorders.

“Not only can we do sleep studies in a lab, but we offer home sleep studies,” Dr. Smith says. “If a patient is apprehensive about being in a lab, losing privacy, they can do a home sleep study.” Patients who qualify for this type of analysis, which has been available for only two years or so, are given a device to wear at home to monitor their brain waves and heart rate. This data is then analyzed at ENTACC and used to determine if patients have a sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea. “Our patients appreciate this convenient and less invasive method of testing,” says Dr. Smith.

In addition to Sleep medicine, Dr. Smith’s clinical interests include allergy treatment, sinus disease and in-office balloon sinuplasty.

Another revolutionary treatment, sublingual immunotherapy, is offered in ENTACC’s allergy department. Many patients suffering from year-round allergies used to have to come into the office for weekly injections. Sublingual immunotherapy is a far less invasive, at-home means of treating allergies, and ENTACC is at the forefront of this treatment.

“This program has been particularly popular with pediatric patients,” says Dr. Mariotti. “We use a model that’s very well accepted. This oral immunotherapy is literally a dropper under the tongue, done at home, that negates the need for shots.” Plus, he notes, “When the medication is at home, in the refrigerator, you never need to miss a dose.”

“Access to these advanced treatment methods is just one reason patients choose ENTACC,” says administrator Deanna DiMascio. “In business for over 35 years, ENTACC is a trusted name for ENT, sleep, allergy and audiology needs. We hold a genuine gratitude for our patients and are 100 percent focused on their perception of value and the delivery of an exceptional patient experience. Our commitment to this goal is evident at all levels of the practice.”

Dr. Picariello, a graduate of Harvard University and the Medical College of Pennsylvania, is a trained scholar of the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and chief of ENT services at Chester County Hospital.  As he enters his 25th year of practice, his particular clinical interests consist of nasal and sinus diseases and sinus surgery, including in-office balloon sinuplasty, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, chronic ear diseases and laryngeal and voice disorders.

Dr. Keszeli is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he serves as a clinical associate professor. As the most senior partner at ENTACC, Dr. Keszeli’s clinical areas of interest include in-office balloon sinuplasty, nasal and sinus disease, thyroid and parathyroid disease, allergies, skin cancer and pediatric ENT.

The credentials of the physicians are impressive, and so is ENTACC’s dedication to their patients.

“At ENTACC we believe we are obligated to provide the highest level of care and, at the same time, create a sophisticated, refined patient-service model that increases the value of the health care experience,” says DiMascio. “That mission has led to ENTACC becoming a nationally ranked, progressive practice with a top 20 percent patient satisfaction rating.”
