The Stars Align
Shining a spotlight on some of the area's most devoted dental health professionals.
Dentists and allied health professionals have had an interesting year. Shutdown orders ushered in because of the COVID-19 pandemic caused most offices to close their doors, at least temporarily, or reserve care solely for urgent care and emergencies.
Despite the tough operating conditions, so many have remained available as resources to patients and the community at large. Some offered at-home tips to maintain dental health (and overall health). Others stepped up their involvement with local communities, by organizing drives to supply much-needed personal protective equipment to frontline hospital workers.
We salute these professionals with our Five-star Dentists, Class of 2020.
In addition to readersí suggestions, we included some selections of our own, based on recent stories we have written about dental professionals who have shown a high level of expertise and devotion to their vocation. From there, we vetted each individual on five distinct criteria:
* Are they licensed to practice and insured as dental professionals?
* Do they possess board certification or advanced training in specific areas of specialty?
* Are they affiliated with notable professional organizations such as the American Dental Association or the Pennsylvania Dental Association?
* Do they fulfill their obligation to complete at least 30 hours of continuing education every two years?
* Do they ìgive backî to the community through philanthropy and public outreach, or even by providing dental services to those who could otherwise not afford care?
Slowly, and thankfully, dentists are reopening their doors, with some significant precautions in place to protect the health of patients and staff alike.
