Dentistry From the Heart
With three flourishing locations in Philadelphia, the co-founders of Batra Dental Group have made it their mission to bring superior dental care to the region.

When Pallavi Batra, D.M.D., is asked about her inspiration for becoming a dentist, she immediately thinks about her father. She has vivid childhood memories of accompanying her dad, a medical doctor, to camps where he provided free medical services to those who could not afford health care.

“It was a great experience,” she says, “to see his passion for helping people.”

Not surprisingly, Dr. Batra decided early on that she wanted to follow her father and grandfather into medicine so she could change people’s lives for the better.

All these years later, Dr. Batra has the same love for her job and helping others that she learned from both of her parents, including her mother, a teacher. She and her husband, Ash Batra, co-founded Batra Dental Group and started two practices in 2019, Advanced Dentistry of Philadelphia and Advanced Dentistry of Center City. They recently opened a third location, Ritt Dental, to further their goal of providing the highest level of dental care to as many patients as possible.

Dr. Batra graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. She has been practicing dentistry for the last two decades, providing an array of general, cosmetic, implant, and restorative dentistry services.

“We love what we do,” she says. “We’re here from 8 in the morning until 8 at night most days, but no matter how exhausted we are, at the end of the day it’s just a great feeling to help so many people bring their smile back.”

One aspect that sets Batra Dental Group apart from other practices is Dr. Batra’s breadth of knowledge and experience in a wide range of specialties, including orthodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. She is a top Invisalign provider, and is often referred by other dentists to provide LANAP laser gum surgery, root canals, and implants. She works with a master ceramist to create customized smile makeovers. Through guided surgery, Dr. Batra has placed thousands of implants that includes single implants all the way up to full-mouth rehabilitation. Every surgery is carefully planned in advance with the help of digital technology, always keeping the end in mind.

“Having the same doctor doing everything in one place where you’re already comfortable is a big advantage,” Dr. Batra says. “For the patient, it’s so much more comfortable, less confusing, and less expensive for the patient because they’re not being sent to multiple dentists. We look at the whole mouth versus just individual teeth, placing equal emphasis on function and aesthetics.”

Batra Dental Group utilizes state-of-the-art technology, from intraoral cameras to cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and the iTero 5D Plus system to find and treat dental carries. Such equipment aids in patient education; rather than just being told what to do, patients can see any issues for themselves through clear imaging. The CBCT provides a 3D view to treat complex cases and help with the most accurate diagnosis.

“It is our duty to ensure our patients leave with a smile, that they have all of their questions answered, and that they have a thorough understanding of their detailed dental plan,” says Ash Batra. “That includes their appointments going forward, the benefits and risks of the diagnosed treatment, and all associated costs.”

Dr. Batra credits her dedicated staff for their support, including associates William Avi Kessler, D.M.D., and Silvy Cherian, D.M.D. She is also grateful to each of the staff members for their commitment and friendly demeanor, along with two employees who helped get the practice off the ground and have since left; thanks to Dr. Batra’s mentorship, both have gone to school for higher studies in the field of dentistry. Dr. Batra has mentored several dentists during her career, and is very proud to see them doing so well.

“My husband and I together have been a great partnership, and that’s the key to our success,” Dr. Batra says of Ash, who serves as CEO and oversees business operations. “We keep an open mind and at the same time give positive feedback to each other, so we can keep getting better.”

Her father’s influence was Dr. Batra’s first source of inspiration. Every day, she finds new inspiration in the opportunity to improve patients’ smiles, alleviate their pain, and express her creativity. Patient experience is very important to her, and the entire team places great emphasis on providing quality care in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

“When I was in school, I would do glass paintings, and I even designed my own wrought-iron furniture,” she says. “Dentistry is also an art, so it combines my passion for helping people, my interest in medicine,  and my love for artwork. It all comes from your heart to do better and help people get back their smile or get them out of pain.”
