Monmouth University
Amplify your future.
by Staff

As soon as you step foot on this 170-acre campus, in West Long Branch, New Jersey, it’s easy to see why Monmouth University has been named one of BuzzFeed’s “Top 10 Most Beautiful Campuses in the World,” and why both U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review recognize it as one of the “Best Colleges” in the country.

Nestled along New Jersey’s coastline, just one hour from New York City and Philadelphia, Monmouth University provides a warm, friendly atmosphere where historic architecture mingles among modern academic and residence halls, where stunningly landscaped grounds create an inspirational environment to learn and grow, and where a diverse student body can expand their curiosities and work alongside distinguished faculty on collaborative projects.

From top facilities to the engaged faculty, it’s evident that Monmouth University takes pride in preparing students to succeed in life. At Monmouth, your educational experience does not just take place in a lecture hall, but through a variety of ways, some experiential, technological, collaborative, and innovative.

Collaboration Beyond the Classroom
The University is committed to learning experiences that are high-impact, immersive, and extend beyond the classroom. Your learning will incorporate real-time skill building because we believe it is easier to take risks, have courage, and step out into the world with the kind of confidence—and resume—that comes from lived-out experiences.

At Monmouth, the classroom is only the beginning of your education. Every student is required to participate in Experiential Education, completing at least one hands-on course in their major or minor through an internship, service learning or corporate project, cooperative education placement, or through the study abroad program.

Monmouth’s engaging and experiential learning process also includes opportunities for students to create real-world connections from experiences through our unique centers of distinction, our media and publication organizations, and more.

Sean Gerhard ’21 found his passion with Monmouth’s student-run WMCX and created a radio program that was named “Most Innovative/Creative Program” at the 2021 Intercollegiate Broadcast System Media Awards.

“To be No. 1 out of the entire country is an awesome feeling,” he says. “WMCX gave me the opportunity to express my creativity like nothing else could have. My professors gave me constant encouragement and support. This has been one of my favorite experiences in my life.”

From the Sea to C Major, Opportunities of a Lifetime
Surf and sand aren’t the only perks of a campus a stroll away from the Atlantic. With Monmouth’s Marine and Environmental Biology and Policy program and the Urban Coast Institute (featuring three vessels for research and field activities), the opportunities for undergraduate research are as vast as, well, the ocean.

Charlie Vasas ’21 took full advantage, saying, “I never really had that hands-on experience—I was always just like, ‘I care about shark conservation.’ But now that I’ve actually physically touched the sharks, and brought them on land, and done research and collected data on them, it makes me care about them even more.”

Few schools have their own recording label or an affiliation with the Grammy Museum, and only one has the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music.

Music, and the music business, are a big deal at Monmouth University. Internships, performance opportunities, and the chance to interact and network with industry players abound. Just ask Mark Rodriguez ’20, who says, “It’s not just the music or the business aspects of this program—it’s both combined that makes it special. From sitting in on jam and recording sessions to managing a band in the applied industry class, you really gain insight into both the promotional and creative sides of the word of music.”

Bachelor’s? Master’s? Why Not Both?
For students who come to college knowing they want to continue beyond their bachelor’s degree to a master’s, Monmouth University helps them get there faster with its Bachelor’s + Master’s programs. Motivated students can graduate with both degrees in as little as five years (for many programs), knowing they are well prepared for their career.
