A trip to the dentist’s office, whether for a complex procedure or a routine checkup, can be a source of anxiety for people of all ages. At Mayfair Dental in Northeast Philadelphia, which is the newest of four family dentistry practices operated by Batra Dental Group, Pallavi Batra, D.M.D., strives to make dental anxiety a distant memory.

“We have a lot of patients from the Northeast who travel to our other locations,” says Dr. Batra, who co-owns Batra Dental Group with Ash Batra, her husband. “By adding a new location in Mayfair, we are providing the same quality care closer to where these patients live.”

Not only have Dr. Batra and her associates committed themselves to providing the highest-quality care in a pain-free and efficient manner, but their calming demeanor goes a long way toward easing the concerns of even the most fearful patients.

“What I’ve heard from patients is that I’m comforting, my voice is soft, and I come across as very confident and reassuring,” she adds. “We have a lot of testimonials and videos from our patients, and when people look at our website and see those, they feel very comfortable. Our practices are family practices, and the patients are like our family.”

One recent patient, a man in his 70s who was referred to Dr. Batra for laser gum surgery and several implants, was understandably uneasy about the procedures. She quickly won him over, and his visit was a resounding success.

“His treatment went so well that he started calling me ‘Dr. Mom.’ Now everybody calls me that,” she says with a laugh. “On that first visit you have to remove their fear, put them at ease, and make them comfortable. They’re always fine after the first time, and they know we are going to take care of them.”

Dr. Batra inherited a passion for helping others from her father and grandfather, both doctors, and her mother, a professor. As a teenager in her native India, she worked for charitable camps with her dad, proving medical care to people who could not afford it. She came of age knowing she would go into medicine, either as a medical doctor or a dentist.

“Then my dad had a bad accident and his mouth was shut for six months, so I saw what the dentist did for him,” she recalls. “It was kind of a life-changing experience for me and drove me to become a dentist. That was a turning point for me.”

After completing her education and dental training, Dr. Batra worked for a nonprofit organization for a few years and then started Batra Dental Group with Ash. She specializes in a range of advanced services, from LANAP laser surgery for people with gum disease to full-mouth reconstructions, dental implants, extractions, Invisalign, and root canals, among others. The associate dentists at Mayfair Dental provide the same quality care and perform a wide range of procedures, including root canals, extractions, Invisalign, full-mouth reconstructions, and improving smiles, thereby making the practice a one-stop shop for oral health.

Batra Dental Group has always been committed to embracing technological advancements. Tools such as intraoral scanners, digital X-rays, and cone-beam computed tomography play integral roles in facilitating treatment and improving diagnostics for more predictable results.

Dr. Batra enjoys mentoring her fellow clinicians within Batra Dental Group, and invites new associates to shadow her during procedures for extended training. She’s proud to say her staff shares her passion for the field and her approach to treating patients with kindness and professionalism. The combination of caring, knowledgeable staff and the latest technology can be expected at each of Batra Dental Group’s four Philadelphia locations.

“We have a lot of patients from the Northeast who come to our other offices just because of the service we provide, so we wanted to add another location to give them some flexibility and a location closer to their homes,” says Ash Batra, founder and CEO. “Patients see the difference when they come in regarding the technology and the kind of treatment they are getting. Everybody is absolutely loving it.”

Dr. Batra, who is planning a philanthropic trip abroad with her daughter later this year to offer free dental care to the underprivileged, is excited about the opportunity at Mayfair Dental.

“It’s a new challenge and a new demographic,” she says. “What we can do for them is often a life-changing experience. Their confidence level completely changes as a result, and we are so proud to help them do so.”
