A Cut Above – Leigh Ann Stuart
Leigh Ann Stuart has devoted her career to writing stories about remarkable people. She recently found herself the subject of other writers’ stories – and it likely won’t be the last time.

Stuart, the managing editor of Suburban Life, has spent years honing her culinary talents. In early September she put those talents on display by competing in a Chopped-style cooking contest at the 39th annual Kennett Square Mushroom Festival. The competition, in which contestants were tasked with using random sets of assigned ingredients (mushrooms among them) to create the most compelling dishes possible, included three rounds spread over two days. Her winning dish: an arugula salad with warm pancetta balsamic vinaigrette, topped with potato-chip-crusted fried portobello. Carla Hall of Top Chef fame emceed the first day of competition, and judges included local culinary icons such as Aimee Olexy.

Stuart, ever modest, says she was “shocked” when she heard her name called as the winner. Going forward, she intends to build on the experience by showcasing her talents in more cooking competitions.
