Capable, Compassionate, and Close to Home
At St. Mary Imaging at Richboro, patients receive important health screenings in a warm environment without the inconvenience of a trip to the hospital.
As a longtime patient who gets all of her routine health screenings performed at St. Mary Imaging at Richboro, Karen Catelli raves about many aspects of the outpatient center—namely, the pleasant nature of the staff and the overall convenience. But it was during a nerve-wracking experience after getting her regular mammogram a few years ago that this team’s approach to care especially stood out.
“Something showed on my scan that looked a little funny,” Catelli recalls. “They brought me right back in for another [diagnostic test], and within minutes, a radiologist was there to explain everything. It turned out to be just a shadow, which is common, but they shortened that time of worry and anxiety by having someone available to read the image and consult right away. That’s one of reasons why I like St. Mary Imaging at Richboro: It’s a comforting place to go when you need a test done and you’re unsure of what’s going on.”
Established in 2006 as an extension of St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, St. Mary Imaging at Richboro has consistently added to its capabilities since then. It now offers the full gamut of imaging services, including MRIs, CT scans, Ultrasound, 3D Mammography, X-rays, and DEXA bone-density tests. It also offers Cardiac and Elastography scan capabilities to complement existing MRI studies.
What’s more, the location in the Richboro Shopping Plaza is easily accessible, making it a convenient option for routine care with shorter wait times.
“There is less traffic and less walking for the patients here,” says Shaunna Braker, a supervisor and lead ultrasonographer who joined the St. Mary team in 2009 and began working at Richboro in 2012. “You just park, walk in and get your study done, and go. There is no need to navigate security or long hallways, making the experience at Richboro especially convenient for patients. It’s all very straightforward.”
Perhaps even more important is the friendliness and proficiency of the staff, as well as the familiar faces patients see with each visit, from the front desk to the technologists. Those traits help put patients at ease, particularly if they are experiencing stress related to their screening.
“Most patients who come to St. Mary Imaging at Richboro have been here before, and they love returning because of how easy the process is and how personable and outgoing the technologists are,” Braker adds. “We bring that same level of care to the hospital, but at the imaging center, patients often appreciate the relaxed, non-hospital setting, which can feel more comfortable for some.
“We treat the patients who come into Richboro as if they were our family members; we treat them how we would want to be treated,” she continues. “We go above and beyond for patients, and they feel that—and that’s why they keep coming back.”
Unlike some outpatient centers, St. Mary Imaging at Richboro welcomes walk-ins for X-rays and screening mammograms. Other tests require appointments, but these can often be scheduled within a week, or even the same day.
“Mammograms matter because you never know what could be detected early—and early detection saves lives,” says Braker. “Other imaging tests are ordered by physicians and require a referral. If you’re experiencing a problem, it’s always best to follow through with the imaging your doctor recommends to ensure you’re being properly cared for.”
Catelli was first referred to St. Mary Imaging at Richboro by her primary care provider, Sandra Miskiel, M.D. Her husband, Jim, has been a patient even longer, and she says he also has nothing but praise for the imaging center. On her most recent visit, she was pleased to receive both her annual mammogram and a lung cancer screening—she quit smoking two years ago after 35 years—within minutes of each other.
As usual, she was welcomed with open arms.
“Going to the hospital can feel intimidating,” she says. “Coming to a dedicated imaging center like Richboro feels more personal and relaxed. The image quality is the same, but the welcoming atmosphere and personal touch are what keep me coming back.”
