Finding the Right Fit
Lace Silhouettes Lingerie provides women with personalized service to help them find the right bras to complement their summer wardrobe

Summer is coming and, with it, sleeveless, halter and strapless styles that offer less coverage. While a woman should enjoy the chance to show off her summer wardrobe, it shouldn’t mean showing off unwanted glimpses of her bra.

Lace Silhouettes Lingerie in Lahaska has been finding the right bra for every style—and the right fit for every woman’s body—for nearly 25 years by providing women with personalized, knowledgeable service in a comfortable shopping environment. Owner Karen Thompson says intimate apparel is the very personal side of fashion. “At any aged—18 or 80—women want to look put together and be fashionable.”

According to Thompson, a woman should have four everyday styles, including three in nude, one in black and one offering an alternative strap style. At least one of these bras should be a T-shirt style—something with a little bit of lining—that can be worn under thin tops in fine knits. Once a woman has built a wardrobe that includes these essentials, she can add fashionable styles, fabrics, colors and special-purpose bras for use with specific clothing and activities.

Owning three of the bras she wears most often allows a woman to rotate them. Wearing the same one each day will stretch it and decrease its lifespan. This means she can be wearing one, have one in the drawer, and one in the laundry. A woman’s everyday basic bras could be any style, but they must be comfortable, fit well and make her look amazing. Thompson also believes every woman should own at least one lacy, sexy, drop-dead gorgeous bra because, she says, “We all need to look and feel incredible sometimes.”

Demi and plunge bras are ideal to wear with clothes that have low necklines. They are also the most flattering style for petite or small-busted women. Full-busted women, however, may want to look for a full-coverage bra. This style has more fabric in the cups for better containment. Racer or T-back bras, strapless and convertible styles are all essential options for maintaining support while wearing tops with difficult neck- and sleevelines. A good convertible bra has interchangeable straps that can create a strapless, crisscross, halter and even low-backed style.

Lace Silhouettes carries apparel from more than 150 brands in order to provide each guest with the best fit for their needs. “Certain manufacturers cater to specific body types,” Thompson says. Not every bra style works for each individual body type. Some styles will flatter a woman’s figure more than others.

According to Thompson, eight out of 10 women are wearing the wrong-sized bra. Most women have never received a proper bra fitting, and even fewer realize that their bra size can change as many as six times in their lives. Weight loss or gain, childbirth, activity levels and age can all affect tissue density and result in a change in fit. Lace Silhouettes Lingerie offers professional bra fittings, coupled with its Bra Therapy consultations, to help women of all ages, sizes and styles find the perfect fit.

A professional fitting is simple and requires only three measurements taken, in private, while the guest is fully clothed. During the consultation, a specialist will ask the guest questions about her family, health and lifestyle. All these details are important information that the consultant uses to write a “prescription for comfort,” recommending a bra wardrobe based on the guest’s body type and lifestyle. The process can take anywhere from five minutes to an hour, so Thompson suggests calling ahead to make an appointment.

Selecting the best style for her individual body type will ensure a woman always has the right bra to complete her outfit.
